Whilst studying in Auroville, South India under Swami Vidyanand (aka Swami Ji) I was given the spiritual name Chandrakiran. It literally translates as ‘moonbeam’ and I was told it reflected my gentle nature. I am a gentle light. At the time I thought, OK that’s interesting but didn’t really think too much more about it.
It’s only since I began teaching yoga that it makes more sense to me. The feedback from people taking my yoga sessions say they enjoy my gentle, soothing voice. My guidance through the yoga sessions is always gentle, nothing forced, nothing rushed. Everyone can move at their own pace and feel free to take options and modifications right for them. So it’s now that Chandrakiran or moonbeam really resonates with me.
Personally, I have found a great love of yin yoga, restorative yoga and yoga nidra. All the gentle, quieter forms of yoga. I feel they nourish my body, mind and soul.
So you can call me Chandrakiran … or just call me Em.
