Befriending the teacher within

Studio owner Maria presents Angela Baker with the sitting Buddha gift as a thank you for leading the course.

I want to acknowledge Angela Baker who lead the course I recently attended ‘Exploring the seven archetypes of a yin practice; befriending the teacher within’. Angela did an amazing job of delivering this module to around 17 students, which was a module from the 300 hr teacher training course.

I must say I feel well prepared to guide yin classes and now have my yoga mojo on after this course. I have lots of lovely inspiration for my upcoming yin classes and retreats.

Whilst I was on the course I asked Angela what one piece of advice I should take away with me from this module, if nothing else. Angela’s reply was interesting but makes perfect sense;

“Our differences are the gold. To be aware of these is to befriend the teacher within.”

There is no one size fits all in yin. Postures must suit the individual and as the teacher we must have a clear understanding and awareness of this. This approach to teaching Yin Yoga classes sits well with me as this was my philosophy when teaching in secondary education. I now look forward to sharing my learning with others.
