What is your personal mission?

This is a question that has come to me recently and from various directions. I have been asked to meditate on this too. So here we go, I’ll write about my thoughts…

When I decided to set up my website four years ago, it was something I gave a lot of thought to. I had just completed my 200hr yoga teacher training and I gave much thought to my ‘mission statement’. I condensed it down to this;

”My aim is to share the joy and balance that yoga brings to my life.”

So, in all honesty I’m sure I have edited and re-worded it since I first wrote it. I suppose the important lesson that came to me is that actually we should be ever evolving, changing, growing. We should continue to learn for our whole entire life. It’s good to revisit important questions such as this through life.

I also came across a quote from Paulo Coelho, Author of ‘The Alchemist’ which provokes a similar theme of thought;

“Everyone, when they are young, knows what their Personal Legend is.”

I went back to thinking of values I grew up with, when I was a child and a young teen. Honesty, kindness, compassion and truth all featured strongly and still do.

So, I came back to my question, what is my mission and what do I believe in? My mission I believe is to be calm and calming to others. I hope to be open-minded and non-judgemental. I hope to lead by example. My ‘mission’ is to continue to work on finding a balance and calmness in my life and then to share this with others. I can do this through yoga and being the yoga guide. I also feel I can do this through my interactions with friends, family and every person I come across. Well I’ll try anyway.

Have you ever thought about what your personal mission is? What do you believe in and what effect do you wish to have on people in your life?
